Veonia Phylliciana Hutchinson-Lawes, affectionately known as Vee, Veeeeeeeerum, Rona, and Vona was born on April 19, 1975, in St. Catherine, Jamaica, to Lolita “Phyllis” Johnson and Lloyd Hardware. She was adopted by Victor Cleveland and Juanita Agnes Hutchinson at the age of ten.

Veonia was a member of The Sydenham Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed Adventist Education, graduating from Willowdene High School and continuing studies at Northern Caribbean University. Veonia migrated and lived with her adoptive parents in Queens, New York. She traveled back and forth between Jamaica and the United States for several years, working in eldercare and assisted living facilities in New York and Maryland. On August 24, 2008, Veonia married Marlon Lawes.

Veonia showcased her talent by singing with a group called the Teen Heralds. Throughout the years, her friendship with the group remained strong, and they became known as the Remnant. Within the Remnant, Veonia proudly held the title of Friendship Historian.

Veonia’s favorite place in the world was the beach. The tranquility of the ocean and the warmth of the sand brought her inner peace and happiness. Veonia organized weekly tea parties with her cousin Khaleimah and had a special bond with her cousin Khaliyah, whom she affectionately called Veonia, “Vona”. Veonia had an unmatched memory and would often share stories, videos, and pictures to remind her loved ones of the intimate moments they shared.

Veonia impacted the lives of others through her unwavering love and forgiveness. She taught those around her to live life to the fullest, to laugh heartily, and never to waste an opportunity to express love.
